Background

A small home bakery had been quoted $10,000 for a website, plus a monthly fee. I offered to build one for free.

How ordering works

The bakery sells bread in weekly batches. There’s a set number of loaves each week, based on how many fit in the oven. Subscribers get first pick, then the rest go on sale to everyone midweek, and pickup is on Saturday.

When you add a loaf to your cart, it’s held for five minutes so two people can’t buy the last one. You pay through Square, and you get a QR code to show at pickup.

For the owner

The owner has a dashboard to change the breads and prices, set how many loaves are available each week, and open or close orders. It can also make a list of how many of each bread to bake.

The site runs on Google Cloud’s free tier, so there’s no hosting cost. It launched in summer 2026, and I still maintain it.
